DIY Miniature Porch Chairs for a Dollhouse
Okay… these porch chairs? I’m obsessed. This was one of those pieces where I knew I wanted something modern and a little different, but still cozy enough to actually feel like a real outdoor setup. And once I started weaving the yarn into the frame… it just kept getting better and better.
What I love most about this project is how customizable it is. The frame is simple, but that’s what makes it so fun is that you can really make it your own depending on how you style it.
Materials:
Porch Chair (you can 3D print your own using my digital download file here)
- Yarn
- Foam Board
- Fabric
- Super Glue
- Exacto Knife
- Pen/Pencil
- Aleen’s Super glue
Styling the Chair Frame with Yarn
- Secure the First Anchor Point
Starting on one side of the chair frame, apply super glue to the inside edge and secure one end of the yarn in place. - Weave the Yarn Through the Frame
Begin wrapping or weaving the yarn across the chair frame. I used a simple woven pattern to create texture and structure. - Continue Across the Frame
Keep weaving until you reach the opposite side, maintaining tension so the yarn sits evenly. - Secure the End
Once complete, cut any excess yarn and glue the end securely to the inside of the frame so it is hidden. - Repeat on the Other Side
Follow the same process for the opposite side of the chair to complete the woven structure.
Creating the Seat Cushion
- Make a Template
Create a template of the seat area of the chair. - Cut the Foam Base
Trace the template onto a foam board and carefully cut it out using an X-Acto knife. - Trace the Fabric
Place the foam piece onto your fabric and trace around it, leaving approximately a 0.75” allowance on all sides. - Cut and Prepare Fabric
Cut out the fabric, then make small slits from the edge of the allowance toward the foam board edge to help it fold cleanly. - Glue the Fabric Down
Wrap the fabric around the foam board and glue it to the back side, securing it in place. - Optional Clean Finish Step
For a more finished look, you can add an additional layer of fabric underneath the cushion to hide folded edges.
I genuinely love how these turned out. They feel modern, clean, and honestly like something I would want on my own porch in real life.
And the best part? You can switch this up so easily. Instead of yarn, you could use wicker, fabric, or even fully upholster the back to create a completely different look. It’s one of those builds where the base is just the starting point, and you get to decide the final vibe.
Don’t overthink it! Just start creating and see where it takes you.
