Where to Find Dollhouse Inspiration (Beyond Pinterest)
Before I picked up a single paintbrush, I had to answer one very important question: what do I even want this dollhouse to look like? And if you’re anything like me… that’s not an easy question.
I’m not someone who has a perfectly curated vision ready to go. I don’t “just know” my style until I see it. So instead of forcing inspiration (or falling into a Pinterest spiral), I did something simple and honestly, kind of refreshing.

I Started With What I Already Had
I grabbed a stack of magazines and catalogs that had been piling up around my house. You know the ones . . . the beautiful, slightly dangerous ones that make you want to redecorate your entire life:
- Crate & Barrel
- Home Depot
- Lily and Serena
- Arhaus
- RH
- CB2
- Atlanta Home & Lifestyle Magazine
No extra spending. No overthinking. Just using what was already in front of me.

Your first dollhouse starts here
A curated checklist of every tool, material, and decision you’ll face before your first build so you can start with clarity instead of 47 open browser tabs.
Clip First, Think Later
I gave myself full permission to not have a plan.
I flipped through each magazine and clipped anything that caught my eye. Colors, textures, furniture, tiny details, even full room layouts. If I paused on it for more than a second, it made the cut.
No rules. No “does this match?” Just vibes.
Then Came the Reality Check
Once I had a good pile going, I went back through everything and started narrowing it down. This is where the magic happened.
Patterns started to emerge. Certain colors kept showing up. Specific styles kept repeating. And slowly, without forcing it, my “taste” started revealing itself. Not what Pinterest thinks I should like. Not what’s trending. Just… what I like.
Why This Worked So Well for Me
There’s something really powerful about removing the algorithm from the process.
No ads.
No “you might also like.”
No comparing your style to someone else’s perfectly styled home.
Just you, your instincts, and what naturally draws your eye.
And honestly? It felt so much more personal.
Build alongside us in Lina’s Dollhouse Collective
If this build feels lonely, that is exactly what the Collective is for. Lina’s Dollhouse Collective is the Facebook group where we share ideas, put the free tools to work as part of our process, and cheer each other on through every glued finger and crooked shingle.
Inside the group you can ask the questions you do not want to post publicly, show off a build at any stage (the messy ones too), and pick up tricks the rest of us learned the hard way. We talk scale, paint, wiring, sourcing, kits, scratch builds, and yes, snack recommendations for long glue-drying breaks.
Bring your tools. Bring your scale ruler, your color palette, and your scale conversions. Bring your wins and your roadblocks. We will meet you there.
My Advice (From Someone Who Doesn’t “Just Know”)
If you’re starting your own dollhouse and feel stuck on inspiration, try this:
- Put your phone down
- Skip the Pinterest board (at least for now)
- Grab magazines or catalogs you already have
- Clip everything you love, without overthinking
- Then go back and refine
If you want a dollhouse you’re truly obsessed with, it has to start from within. Not from an algorithm.
