How to Wire a Dollhouse for Electricity: Country Lane Build with the Cir-Kit 101 Kit
Adding electricity was one of the parts of the Country Lane build I was most excited about. I used the Cir-Kit 101 wiring kit to add working lights throughout the house and I filmed the whole process from unboxing to final walkthrough if you want to watch along (see before the instructions below).
This post is written around the Country Lane dollhouse from Real Good Toys, but the process below works for wiring pretty much any dollhouse. At a high level it comes down to the same few steps: add a junction to the dollhouse to connect the transformer, plan and mark your wire paths, place the tape wire along those paths, and make your connections on separate loops with eyelets.

Plan Your Rooms First
Before you touch any tape wire, plan your rooms. Knowing roughly where your furniture, walls, and features are going to land makes it so much easier to figure out exactly where your tape wire needs to go.
If for some reason you don’t plan ahead of time, that’s still okay. You can absolutely wire a dollhouse without a room plan in hand. You’ll just probably end up using more tape wire than you actually need, which is exactly what happened to me. I ran out of the 15 feet of tape wire included in the Cir-Kit 101 kit and had to pull some extra I had left over from another project. Unbox and Get to Know the Kit
The Cir-Kit 101 kit is a great fit for smaller dollhouses, or for any project where you only need a little bit of electricity, like a single room or a small addition. Before installing anything, unbox the kit and lay everything out so you know what you’re working with: the transformer, tape wire, eyelets, and connectors all play a specific role, and it’s worth handling each piece once before you start.
Prep and Test the Transformer
Once you know what’s in the kit, prep the transformer and do a quick test of the electrical kit before it ever touches the dollhouse. Testing everything on its own first means that if something isn’t working later, you know it’s a connection issue and not a bad component.


Map Out Your Wire Paths
With the kit tested and ready, it’s time to plan the actual paths your tape wire will travel through the house. I used a guide to help mark these paths clearly before running any wire, which made the installation itself go much faster and kept everything lining up the way I wanted.
Set Up the Junction Splice
The junction is what connects your transformer to the tape wire running through the house, so this is the step that ties the whole system together. Getting the junction splice set up correctly here saves you headaches later.
Make Your Pleats
Tape wire needs to turn corners cleanly, and that’s where pleating comes in. Making pleats at each turn keeps the two conductive strips inside the tape wire from touching each other and shorting out, while still letting the wire follow the path you mapped.
Make Your Connections
This is where the eyelets come in. Each fixture connects to the tape wire on its own loop using an eyelet, which pierces through the tape wire and makes contact with the conductive strips inside. Take your time here since a solid connection now means fewer troubleshooting sessions later.


Test Before You Commit
Before buttoning everything up, do a first test of the electrical on the dollhouse. This is your chance to catch any loose connections or dark fixtures while everything is still easy to access.
Add the Main Loop Tape Wire
Once the first test looks good, add your main loop of tape wire. This is the primary run that the rest of your fixtures and rooms will branch off of.
Expect a Few Revisions
I ended up making some revisions to the attic wiring after getting further into the install, and that’s completely normal. Dollhouses are forgiving. If a path isn’t working the way you pictured it, you can absolutely go back and adjust it.
Add Sconce and Baseboard Wire Loops
From there, I added additional loops for wall sconces and baseboard lighting. This is a good point to do a tour through the house and see how the lighting plan is actually coming together room by room.
Finish Your Connections to the Main Loop
With the additional loops in place, make the remaining connections back to the main loop so every fixture is tied into the same system.
Final Result
Once everything is connected, you’ll have a full view of the electrical wiring running through the house, plus a working example of hard wiring in action. It’s a genuinely satisfying moment to flip everything on and see the whole house lit up.
