DIY Miniature Dollhouse Basket from a Bottle Cap (Trash to Treasure)
From Trash to Basket: Easy Miniature Dollhouse DIY
Some of my favorite dollhouse projects start in the recycling bin, and this one is exactly that. With a bottle cap, some twine, and a little hot glue, you can turn actual trash into a tiny woven basket that looks like it belongs in a proper miniature home.

What You’ll Need
- An old bottle cap (I used a Tresemmé cap, but anything that gives you the shape and size you want will work)
- Twine
- Hot glue
- Optional: a scrap of thrifted fabric, for a little blanket to fill your basket
How to Make It
- Anchor your twine. Start by hot gluing the end of your twine to the bottom of the bottle cap. This is your anchor point, so make sure it’s secure before you start wrapping.
- Build the base. Swirl the twine around the bottom of the cap in a spiral, adding small dabs of hot glue as you go to keep everything in place. Once you’ve covered the bottom, keep circling the twine up and around the sides of the cap until it’s fully wrapped.
- Add braided detail (optional). If you’re happy with the plain woven look, you can stop right here. But if you have extra twine left over and want to dress it up a little, grab three pieces of twine and braid them together. Wrap one rotation of the braid around the top of the basket, one around the bottom, and one just below the rim for a little extra texture.
- Add the handles. Using more of that braided twine, attach handles to each side of the basket. This step does double duty: it gives the basket a finished, styled look, and it hides the cap’s original color peeking out from the inside.
- Fill it in. For the finishing touch, I rolled up a piece of fabric from a thrifted shirt to look like a little folded blanket, then tucked it into the basket.
And that’s it, one scrappy bottle cap turned into a woven miniature basket for your dollhouse. It’s proof that some of the best mini pieces come from stuff you already have lying around.
Build alongside us in Lina’s Dollhouse Collective
If this build feels lonely, that is exactly what the Collective is for. Lina’s Dollhouse Collective is the Facebook group where we share ideas, put the free tools to work as part of our process, and cheer each other on through every glued finger and crooked shingle.
Inside the group you can ask the questions you do not want to post publicly, show off a build at any stage (the messy ones too), and pick up tricks the rest of us learned the hard way. We talk scale, paint, wiring, sourcing, kits, scratch builds, and yes, snack recommendations for long glue-drying breaks.
Bring your tools. Bring your scale ruler, your color palette, and your scale conversions. Bring your wins and your roadblocks. We will meet you there.
