How to Build a Miniature Magazine Display Rack for Your Dollhouse Gym
If you saw my Dollhouse Gym Decor post, you already spotted the finished magazine display rack hanging in my miniature gym. A few of you asked how I actually built it, so here is the full step by step for making your own.
Materials
- 1/16 x 1/4″ bass wood strip: 2 pieces at 8 cm (sides), 4 pieces at 3 cm (top and bottom), 1 piece at 3 cm (middle)
- 1/16 x 1/18″ bass wood strip: 2 pieces at 2.7 cm
- Aleene’s Tacky Glue
- Brown acrylic paint
Step-by-Step
- Cut your pieces. Using the measurements above, cut all your bass wood strips down to size before you start assembling. Having everything ready to go makes the build much faster.
- Glue the rack together. Using Aleene’s Tacky Glue, assemble the two 8 cm side strips with the four 3 cm top and bottom strips and the single 3 cm middle strip to build the frame with two shelf sections. Glue the two 2.7 cm strips across the front of each section as small retainers to keep the magazines from sliding out. Let everything dry completely before moving on.
- Paint. Once the glue has fully cured, paint the entire rack brown for a clean, finished look.
- Mount it in your gym. Once the paint is dry, mount the rack in your dollhouse gym above your magazine collection.
Pair it with magazine covers from my Canva template, and you have a whole reading corner for your miniature gym. If you missed it, check out the full Dollhouse Gym Decor post to see this rack in action.
Build alongside us in Lina’s Dollhouse Collective
If this build feels lonely, that is exactly what the Collective is for. Lina’s Dollhouse Collective is the Facebook group where we share ideas, put the free tools to work as part of our process, and cheer each other on through every glued finger and crooked shingle.
Inside the group you can ask the questions you do not want to post publicly, show off a build at any stage (the messy ones too), and pick up tricks the rest of us learned the hard way. We talk scale, paint, wiring, sourcing, kits, scratch builds, and yes, snack recommendations for long glue-drying breaks.
Bring your tools. Bring your scale ruler, your color palette, and your scale conversions. Bring your wins and your roadblocks. We will meet you there.
